  • 2009 | Best Venue Comeback

Given all the businesses that have closed in 2009, it feels good to single out one that actually reopened. The Galaxy Theatre closed, seemingly for good, back in February 2008, only to rise from its metaphorical ashes a little more than a year... More >

I've played there and been in the audience. Best band showcase in the OC area. Elegant old school decor that puts on punk rock shows one day and Tom Jones the next. Great place!

Larger than I expected. I went there last month for a show. It was a decent venue in the Industrial Area of Costa Mesa.

Saw the “The Perfect Age of Rock & Roll Blues Band” Friday night. (6 in our Party.) Fantastic Show, but the venue is very much lacking. Very poor customer service all around and the manager doesn’t really seem to care. Maybe that’s why a show that should have ‘sold-out’ got very little advertising and had a very disappointing turnout. The Galaxy has a Nice Stage and if the place had better management, and was run better, it could really be a sweet venue. Food- We ordered the Filet Mignon & Teriyaki Chicken. After 20-minute wait, a New York Steak and Teriyaki Chicken showed up. Didn’t return the NY steak for the Filet because of hunger and the emanant start of the show. The steak was just fair (Dry Medium-Rare) and the chicken was an inexpensive frozen chicken breast that had a decent sauce, but the chicken was dry also. One in our group (of 6) didn’t get her steak for about one full hour after it was ordered. She shared her husband’s meal that arrived ½ hour earlier and just had the ‘Late’ steak boxed-to-go when it finally arrived. My vegetables were cooked fine as were the Baked Potatoes, except they got the condiments incorrect. Drink- Our group ordered a couple bottles of wine, a few mixed drinks, beers and some wine by the glass. All beverages are served in cheap plastic cups, no drinking glass here even for the money paid in the attended restaurant area. Why even serve premiums if you serve them in thin cheap plastic cups??? Waitress- She tried, but the orders were not matched to the correct tables they didn’t get the condiments for our potatoes correct and my bill was overcharged. But the tab did get corrected with a smile and an apology. Dinner Party Seating- The manager wanted $60.00 to move our party over past one table a bit close to the center. Offered him $20.00 but he said No! And he eventually just sat latecomers there to fill the seats at no extra charge (and they didn’t even order an over-priced dinner.) Guess he doesn’t believe in doing what you can to make a quality customer experience. This is my third time here and I continually rate the Galaxy Theater 2 stars. They get some great talent at the Galaxy on occasion, and it may be the only local venue to see such talent. If they play elsewhere, it may provide you with a better overall show & dining experience.

Check out The Galaxy's website or their ad in OC Weekly, you'd be surprised who comes through here! A lot of bands use this as a place for warm up shows so you can sometimes see top notch headliners performing here before they actually hit the road.
