Description

The poor building on the corner of Elm and Malcolm X in Deep Ellum goes through owners like its patrons go through bottles of whiskey. But it's got new management and a new name: The Nightmare, and with its Elm Street address, the pun is definitely intended. The freshly painted all-black interior looks clean and sleek. A short walk past the front room bar leads to the stage where hard-rock and metal acts regularly play, which makes The Nightmare a fitting name. But that's no reason to be intimidated; it's staffed with some of the friendliest people in town, and the front porch is great for people-watching.

Torche, The House Harkonnen, White Mountain

Torche return triumphantly to Dallas, supporting their new EP, Songs for Singles, and coming back to the venue where they shook the walls the last time around. Rest assured, the band will do it again. Seeing them play is a rarity in metal and... More »

Harlem, Tiger Thrust, Sir Name & The Janes

If the Beach Boys and Nirvana knocked up the Pipettes, the resulting lovechild would be Harlem. Bubblegum-tainted choruses, irreverent charm and a frenetic pace drive their first album for Matador Records, Hippies. (The Austin trio self-released... More »
