Description

Based on the belief that the best way to defend free speech is to practice it (a line I stole from the Nation's Web site), this over-the-hill institute supports investigative journalism from the inside and out. It not only funds inventive and deep-research projects, but also projects a strong, steady political voice in defense of civil liberties and freedom of expression. Check out its Supreme Court Watch and occasional conferences for some rising (we hope) intellectual voices.
