Description
Located inside the grand Downtown Deco quarters of the 104-year-old Alexandria Hotel, the Mezz is a speakeasy-style nightclub showcasing jazz, blues, burlesque, comedy and random, retro-themed amusements. With low ceilings, lower (mostly red) lighting, and some of the lowest-priced drinks in the area, this underground-feeling room provides an exquisite backdrop. The aforementioned ceiling has shimmering chandeliers and ornate moldings and details. The predominantly artsy crowd (especially during Downtown's circuslike Artwalk, which happens on the streets right outside) appreciates both its style and its history. The hotel itself is said to be haunted even though it now also houses a trendy pub (Gorbals, from Top Chef winner Ilan Hall) and functions as an apartment building.
