Tamales are the biggest reason people head to the Mexican Grocery. The price alone grabs your attention: a paper-wrapped fat nugget of meat in a thin layer of masa for under two bucks. But one bite of any of the three varieties focuses your attention on greater matters than price—the pork filling is merely darn good, while the chunky beef is better than most homemade, and the chicken, finely chopped and hotly spicy, is flat-out delectable.
