Description

The Lowry, at the refurbished corner of Lowry and Penn Avenues in North Minneapolis, brings the neighborhood classic American breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. The morning menu covers the basics of omelets, eggs Benedict, and biscuits and gravy, but it also includes crepe-like Swedish pancakes. For lunch and dinner, there are burgers (patty melts), salads (buffalo chicken), sandwiches (dagos), and a few entrees, including meatloaf big enough to feed Paul Bunyan, served on Texas toast with fried onion strings, barbeque sauce, and an enormous pile of mashed, skin-on potatoes. (You'll probably have to take some of it home if you want to save room for the homemade desserts, such as strawberry-cream cheese on slices of grilled pound cake.) The café feels rather like an independent version of Perkins, with straightforward food, affordable prices, and a comfortable dining room that features ceiling-high windows and oversize booths large enough to cram in a party of 10.
