This restaurant was once a main attraction for downtown diners, but it's now more of a large-scale version of Café Express - the Schiller Del Grande group's chain of fast-casual restaurants - for the upscale set. Prices are still high, but the quality of the food - tough, greasy chicken tacos and over-marinated, gloppy ceviche, for example - is not worth the outlay of cash.
New restaurants and bars are opening in downtown Houston faster than we can keep up, thanks to a renaissance around the Market Square Park area that's bringing new life to downtown's north side. But t... More »

If there was ever a restaurant more fitted to a beautiful night out than The Grove, Houston hasn't built it yet. The rustic yet modern restaurant -- in both design and menu -- from Robert Del Grande and Lonnie Schiller, is the crown jewel of downtown's Discovery Green, with immense windows that overlook the verdant park and grand, cathedral-like ceilings. The Grove, headed by the talented young Ryan Pera, offers a three-course pre-theater menu for those dining out before a play at... More »
Sure, the food is good, but at The Grove, it's all about ambience. Patrons walk through the entrance and face a soaring wall of windows that look out onto the oak trees and lawns in Discovery Green Park. The dark wood floors and ceiling add a homey touch to this otherwise sleek and modern-looking restaurant that bleeds almost seamlessly into its tranquil park surroundings. Essentially one large room, the restaurant has an open, airy feel; it's a great place to relax on a Sunday afternoon or... More »

The dark wood floors and ceiling add a homey touch to this otherwise sleek and modern-looking restaurant that bleeds almost seamlessly into its tranquil park surroundings. Essentially one large room, the restaurant has an open, airy feel; it's a great place to relax on a Sunday afternoon or be seen amongst the well-heeled formal diners at night. If a full meal is too much, then take the elevator up to the Tree House, a bar and wooden balcony/patio ensconced within the city skyline that offers one of the most relaxing views around.
Great date place. Romantic views overlooking discovery green. Dinner portions are perfect. Try the fish, and after dinner head upstairs for cocktails on the deck.
awesome food, good place, good experience, good service
