This small coffee shop was founded in the West Village way back in 1996 and it definitely carries a hint of 90s counterculture with it. Inside, exposed brick walls, chalkboards menus and assorted artwork and bric-a-brac fill the homey space. The staff and the customers tend to be on the younger side; it¹s not unusual to see the row of two-tops filled with students perusing textbooks or magazines. Lack of Wi-Fi means the place actually has a lively, conversational vibe instead the feel of a hushed office. Plenty of people come in for lunch or a casual dinner. Choose from a selection of burgers, salads and around 20 different sandwiches ranging from roasted turkey with brie and tomato to hummus with Swiss cheese, avocado, tomato and lettuce. There is also a small breakfast menu consisting of egg and oatmeal dishes to go along with your morning coffee.—Keith Wagstaff
I'm generally opposed to brunch, but if I must brunch, I go to GREY DOG'S COFFEE, where the biggest, lightest croissants are split then flopped with an omelet and a discus of sage sausage to become the best breakfast sandwich in town. Up yours, Croissan'wich! Coffee's good too. More »
Four dogs of various breeds and sizes sit at the feet of their owners, occasionally yipping at each other, at this crowded, artsy café. GREY DOG'S COFFEE takes canine friendliness very seriously, decorating with picket fences and dog statues and offering up remaining wall space to dog-loving artists.
