Description

The legendary Goat Hill Tavern is everything it has been touted to be by its legions of loyal patrons: a laid-back bar with 132 beers on tap. The ceiling is a clutter with vintage road signs, moose antlers, bicycles and car bodies. Meanwhile, the floor is littered with peanut shells. A whiteboard above the bar lists the beers available in dense writing and can either be daunting to an amateur suds-sipper or a welcome challenge to an enthusiast. Labels include standard domestics such as Coors and Shock Top to more exotic brands such as Lean To IPA, Erdinger Hef and Fire Rock Pale Ale. The service is as quick as can be expected in such a crowded bar, but thankfully, the cocktails are served with a heavy hand. Recreational distractions include a partially open-air patio, where you can play a round of pool or shuffleboard.

  • 2011 | Best Bar Snack

Drinking a constant stream of beer at Goat Hill Tavern (they have about a million different brews on tap) requires a little sponge in your stomach. For just a buck, you get a little basket of perfectly salted, crunchy peanuts--and for a dollar more, you get a big basket. Beer and peanuts are an indisputably winning combination, and here, when you're done, just throw the shells on the floor--they're already everywhere! They're not only for ambiance, but probably also to soak up the... More »

The very definition of casual, Goat Hill greets its guests with a floor covered in peanut shells, a huge block of a man checking IDs and a subtle scent of . . . what the hell is that smell, anyway Foosball, air hockey, a huge smoking section that looks like part of the bar, minus some roof--all these things exist to keep you occupied while sipping from one of Goat Hill's 100-plus beers on tap. Weekends are for the college crowd, when twentysomethings take over the bar, but the rest... More »

  • 2007 | Best Beer Selection

If you haven’t heard of the Goat, then you don’t know shit about beer. But don’t worry. Just close your eyes and point, then order confidently. This place has more than 140 of the most obscure beers you could imagine on tap, and it’s doubtful that most of its patrons could tell a Rogue Brutal Bitter from a Deschutes Black Butte Porter. You can take your taste buds down a wet-and-wild ride by ordering up something different every time, and you’ll never run the... More »
