Description

While the upstairs and downstairs bars aren't particularly spacious, what the Duplex has going for it is a consistently positive vibe and it almost always delivers on the promise of riotous fun. Duplex maintains the combination of live piano players, singing waitstaff who are generally also actors and musicians that perform professionally, and an open mike night that has featured, over the past 50 years, artists such as Woody Allen and Joan Rivers. Their 70 seat off-Broadway theatre continues to provide a space for award-winning talent as well. Tables and chairs are often available on the street which makes for an ideal people-watching sunny weekend afternoon.

  • 2004 | Best place to be a Philly fan

While Boston fans are holding court across the street at the Riviera, Philly expats are finding an unlikely place of their own to congregate: THE DUPLEX, far better known for its downstairs piano cabaret sing-alongs, is slowly cultivating a coterie of Philadelphia sports fans in its upstairs game room. Evening bar-meister Ed Gaines serves up the suds while breaking down which of the Eagles' three seventh-round draft picks will make an impact this year. More »
