The Dock is located in the claustrophobic side streets of Balboa's Cannery Village where parking is scarce and metered. Owners Dennis and Christine Overstreet reclaimed the place from the failed Arches on the Water, changed the menu, reupholstered the couches, added votive candles and a fire pit. But the hook of the place hasn't changed: the patio is still breezy, open to the elements, and so close to the water you can skip a stone from your seat. You can still moor your Duffy boat on the restaurant's dock just like before, but the food is much improved. Try their lamb, which is roasted, rested, and sliced so precisely it seemed like they've perfected the science of meat cookery.

The most appropriate way to arrive at the Dock is by Duffy boat. And if you're lucky enough to live on the Balboa Peninsula, you probably are already in possession of one. Park it at the restaurant's, um, dock and greet your neighbors, who will already be waiting for you.
