Description

Many gay clubs on Capitol Hill have been infiltrated by heterosexuals in recent years, but The Cuff remains the neighborhood's biggest "bear" bar. Standout features include an S&M sex shop onsite, an enormous dancefloor, and a painting of a lion having sex with a dude.

Still the best place for disco and retro music every Sunday. Hot guys, drink specials, I'm in heaven!

One performer offers, via "Nights on Broadway," a very mean, very funny impression of a Gibb. Another, his body seemingly composed entirely of circles—just like beginner art-instruction books tell you—tears up "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going." And another remarks offhand of Michael Bublé, "If he were scruffy and a little more chunky, I'd probably put it in his butt." This would be "bearaoke," a Tuesday-night tradition at the Cuff hosted by Jonathan Jones—where, you might say, all singers are equal but husky, hairy gay male singers are more equal than others. Though no one couldn't feel welcome with the effortlessly outgoing Jones in charge, who will even duet with unconfident vocalists. Marvin Murray, the sort of serious regular who brings his own portfolio of discs, has over the years followed Jones to the Cuff from his hosting gigs at four other (now defunct) Seattle bars; the fun of bearaoke, he says, is that it "isn't your typical bar scene where people are out with an 'agenda.' It's truly social and you can get to know people...without the pressures of hooking up you typically have on the weekends." And you can do it with showtunes, "Sweet Caroline," and "867-5309" in the background.—Gavin Borchert

This is the place to go out with your friends for a night of dancing. Or if you like the bears you can hang out upstaries and play pool and meet someone.
