When Oprah mentioned The Counter on her show, it sent sales skyward at the original Santa Monica store, paving the way for franchising. Now, with its first Orange County outlet open in Irvine, we can design our own burger towers that we can't possibly put our mouths around, just like our L.A. cousins.

But if you haven't, here's a tip: Forget even picking up that pencil. Just put it down. We know it's tempting, what with all the burger toppings at your disposal. But trust us�you don't want the apricot sauce, the dried cranberries or the hard-boiled eggs. It's a road that leads to nowhere but a tall, unstable burger that you won't be able to fit in your mouth. Simply order the Old School ($8.50): Cheddar, tomato, onion, pickle and relish. And when you taste it, it'll be thick and juicy�the burger you've always craved, but never found. Until now.

Veggie Burger is the best here. You can order it in 1/3, 1/2, or 1 Pound sizes in different protein forms- my friends say that the beef and turkey are delicious. You order everything on your burger ahead of time by marking up a huge pad of paper. You can be as creative and as adventurous as you like.
