Tucked away on a tiny side street in downtown Fullerton, the Continental Room doesn't look like much from the outside, but the blah exterior masks the drop-dead sexy lounge within. The interior is reminiscent of a lush, red-lit, turn of the century boudoir. The Continental Room opened in 1925, and though it served as a simple beer bar, it's still gets the title of oldest watering hole in the city. Bands and DJs play regularly on the small circular stage in the corner of the club.
The self-proclaimed greatest Elvis impersonator in Fullerton, Brea and Whittier, Kirk Wall knows how to rock a white, sequined jumpsuit like nobo...
Catchy, weird and wonderful, The Field Trip can't exactly be pinned down to one genre, instead juxtaposing different sounds together for an eclectic joyride. Hailing from the land of magic kingdoms and Mickey Mouse ears, the five members of The... More »
Here in Orange County we have our lion's share of kustom car fanatics and hot rod culture, as well as a rich history of surf rock bands that came and went in the heyday of the sixties. Local surf rock combo The Dynotones sprung into the scene in... More »
Continental Room's been on a roll with their band bookings lately, hosting monthly residencies for up and coming punk and indie bands for free. Tonight they feature rock legend Paul Collins and the Paul Collins Beat. The Beat came about in the... More »

" />This column appeared in print as "Concentrated Chaos."
The Shrills sound nothing like an African-American girl group from the '60s. In fact, if the Shirelles—the group that inspired their moniker—were around to see them play at a bar somewhere, they probably would run out screaming as though the... More »
When you listen to Cochinas, your mind will go to dirty places. Not like that! We're talking a hot, crowded warehouse show; a beer-swilling house party; a dive bar that doesn't check IDs—the kind of places where rules appear to be few and the... More »
Small dive. College crowd. Attentive servers and eclectic blend of live acts. Basic SoCal Meat Market.
Love the lounge vibe. It's a good place to kick back and enjoy the music with a cocktail.
did you know this is the oldest bar in Fullerton? yep, i just learned that. it's also one of my favorites! it's got a great vibe and the people are great!
Slightly off the beaten path of Fullerton's lights-and-action Downtown, the Continental Room is the oldest drinking establishment in the city. Inside, it's cozy and dark--really dark--and the sultry red-and-black décor and snug booths set the mood for a casual liaison. Drinks are fairly cheap, and the bartenders are heavy-handed, all the better to lower your standards by the night's end. Out on the smoking patio, there's a camera filming the inside for your... With its velvet curtains, plush booths, dim lighting, long bar and "founded in 1925" mystique, the Continental Room always seems like the perfect place for both the classy and the corny. That dichotomy is made incarnate every Wednesday at 8:30 p.m., when veteran Elvis impersonator Kirk Wall takes the stage, hound-dogs around the room and croons about blue-suede shoes. A little while later, a burlesque dancer materializes to straddle railings and crawl seductively all over the bar.... More »
With its awesome DJ nights and live music, this swanky, dimly lit bar in Fullerton (also the oldest drinking establishment in Orange County) makes it pretty easy to get schnockered. Getting too wasted, though, will get you a swift kick in the ass and an 86 for the night. However, being ushered out over the velvet rope in the front--especially if there's a line waiting to get in--kind of gets you rock-star status. Plus, a short walk down the street lands you smack-dab in the... More »
Three words can sum up the Continental Room in Fullerton: small, dark and cool. Stepping through the doors feels like stepping back in time into a hip 1940s jazz club. This gem consists of a dimly lit room lined with U-shaped booths that feature call buttons to signal to servers you are ready for another round, a stage area hosting great local talent including Elvis impersonators on Wednesdays, and a sweet outdoor station for smokers that doesn't make them feel like lepers or societa...
