The Cliff House is a San Francisco classic, especially striking after a 2002-'04 renovation project that gave it a sweeping, light-filled Art Deco ocean-liner ambience. The Outer Richmond space hosts two dining venues, the casual first-come first-served Cliff House Bistro (chowder, burgers, crab Louis, cioppino), and the more elegant reservations-only Sutro's (bouillabaisse, tuna tartare, filet mignon, and the like). Both offer timeless floor-to-ceiling vistas of Seal Rocks, the Golden Gate, the occasional migrating whale, and ships disappearing into the horizon.
