Once owned by an investment group that included vocalist Ella Fitzgerald, the posh Burnsley Hotel has long been home to a first-rate jazz club; local vocalists, pianists and other swingers perform in the lobby bar Thursday through Saturday nights. The upscale, candlelit atmosphere and mellow sounds make this a great date spot. The dining room at the Burnsley Hotel is a little jewel box that puts out a legendary breakfast spread. Later in the day, the menu features an array of reasonably priced entrees. But the best thing to order at the Burnsley is the burger, and the best place to eat it is in the bar, another gem that feels like a private club with its dark woods and cozy tables.

Only 3 blocks away from Westword Music Showcase. If you are coming in from out of town be sure to stay here!
I went to the Burnsley Hotel towards the end of January 2010. I heard they have live jazz music on the weekends so my spouse and I decided to make an "evening of it". That place is like a little hidden treasure sunken inside of the city. The food wasn't what we'd call 5 star but it was very good and reasonably priced. The waitstaff was friendly, effiicient and offered excellent service. HOWEVER, it got even better when the pianist, Holly Holverson (or Halverson?) bustled in and proceeded to play just about everything from Mozart, Fats Waller, Count Basie, Herbie Hancock right on through modern pop and r & b sensations like Stevie Wonder, James Brown, Nora Jones and everything else in between. I played the trumpet professionally many years ago. I played less often when it came time to earn enough money to support my family took precedence. I have a decent ear for music and I've heard some of the best. What blows my mind about this lady is that she played music which spanned over two centuries time, from several continents around the globe and she was strong in every aspect. Not many folks are that versatile and convincing in terms of the the types of music they play. Some play one style exclusively, others play a 2 or 3 styles really well, and are proffient or "passable" in most other areas. A good number are the "jack of all trade" types who "dabble" in this and that, which is about the extent of it. In addition, she was quite the character in terms of personality. I've check the Burnsley's entertainment schedule yet I never see her on the calendar. Hopefully, she'll be back or we'll run into her somewhere else.
What a great out of the way bar with a vibe all its own. Al Bellerose (jazz pianist) is a treat and if you can catch him on the schedule (http://bit.ly/2D5984), don't hesitate - just go. Quaint, cool, old, warm.
Close enough to the urban core to be a short walk or free shuttle ride to downtown amenities, but far enough away to provide free parking, the Burnsley is a class act. The all-suite rooms are spacious, many with great views of the skyline -- yet they're half the cost of what you'd pay for a marble-lined broom closet just a few blocks away. The staff is friendly, the neighborhood calm, and the restaurant serves a killer Reuben, which makes this the perfect place to stash visiting... More »
It's noon, and you're feeling naughty. Head to the Burnsley Hotel, where the dimly lit, low-ceilinged dining room has an intimate atmosphere and cozy nooks and crannies just right for cuddling up. If it's true love, split an entree of angel-hair pasta with fresh roma sauce so that you can slurp up the noodles together. If it's just sex, go for the hearty, blood-pumping beef tenderloin with béarnaise. And if you're too worked up to go back to work right away, might we suggest a trip... More »
