Since 2005, the Brick Rock Bar has been expanding. First out onto the sidewalk. Now one bar has expanded into three as it goes into the space next door. The name of one of the new bars, the Parlor, is perhaps a reference to the Häagen-Dazs that once occupied the space. And the other, Manual Fattys, seemingly mocks the fall of a similarly themed bar down the street. Despite its brick-by-brick growth, the scene is still the same: a live DJ spinning every night of the week; waitresses pouring drinks into funnels down patrons' gullets; seven bucks for a beer and a shot; $2 Coors drafts; drinks with names such as the blow job and the buttery nipple; stripper poles; and dozens of flat-screen TVs.

The day is nigh when the entire downtown village of too-loud, too-expensive bars is going to be plowed under to make way for the encroaching condo canyon. When the ordinances come for these joints, which make such a ruckus indeed, they will come first for the likes of the Brick.
