The Book House is a used book store located inside a fairly large, run down, nineteenth century house. Its practically stuffed with out of print books. What's the appeal? 1. In the nineteenth century, the house was a well known brothel along Manchester Road, which was a major route in St Louis at one time. (Parts of Manchester Road became part of the famous "Route 66" ) 2. A child of one of the brothel "employees" haunts the house, if you believe in that sort of thing. I don't, but the house is still spooky as Hell. Check out the "bargain basement" after dark. By the way, the ghost supposedly resides in the front left bedroom on the 2nd floor, where the history books are shelved.

Stacks of books rise from the floor like stalagmites, partially blocking the shelves in... More »

None of the walls, interior or exterior, appears to have been removed or moved, yet this place is no longer a residence but a three-story used-book store, with every available inch of space covered by bookshelves and books. The Book House is everything a bookstore should be, with winding... More »
