Description

With a menu driven by Jucy Lucys and all manner of fried goods (green beans, cheese curds, Spam bites, etc.), the Blue Door Pub is low on pretense but high on creativity and passion. The menu is dominated by scratch-made pub grub that puts a premium on quality and taste, and the atmosphere is friendly. Try the Breakfast Lucy ($8.50) if you're in the mood for something deliciously over the top. The creaminess of the fried egg, plus the thick-cut salty bacon, plus the burger, plus a whole mess of liquid cheese add up to one devilishly delicious meal on a bun.

  • 2013 | Best Neighborhood Bar (St. Paul)

Stepping through the Blue Door Pub's eponymous entryway is always an experience: It's noisy, it's fun, and it's packed with people ready for burgers and beer. Make sure you order one of the famously good Blucys (the Blue Door's creative take on the original Juicy Lucy) right when you get a seat. We recommend the divinely savory-sweet Merriam Park Blucy, stuffed with garlic, bacon, and blue cheese and topped with a healthy slathering of red currant jelly. If you're just looking for light... • 2010 | BEST NEIGHBORHOOD BAR (ST. PAUL)

A good neighborhood bar is a place where the waitstaff is friendly, the music is good, and the taps are cheap and plentiful. The Blue Door Pub has all these things, but it also has something few bars can claim: hangman. That's right, each booth comes equipped with chalk and a board perfect for a boozed-up round of hangman--or whatever else you choose to do with them. That peculiarly wholesome feature is in keeping with the Blue Door's ambiance. It's not a place for vodka Red Bulls and... More »

  • 2009 | Best Burger

Still lamenting the loss of the Crack Burger at the late, great Sauced--that dear, departed patty was slathered in an incomparable veal demiglace--we decided to drown our sorrows in a few brews at the Blue Door Pub. There we discovered the new-ish neighborhood hangout to be pretty much the best thing to happen to Selby Avenue since St. Paul paved its cow paths. The staff is friendly, the tap beer selection well-selected (Rush River Lost Arrow Porter, Lift Bridge Farm Girl, and so... More »

I love the juicy lucy's here. I am still working my way toward finishing the challenge. Great selection plus they throw in a juicy lucy of the week/month/period. Its nice to be able to order just a burger or add a side. The deep fried green beans are a nice change or some cajun tots. The beer selection is good too
