The Belmont Hotel is Dallas' very own boutique hotel. It's a diamond in the rough, really, in the virtual no-man's-land of West Dallas. But what many people are starting to find out, including Esquire Magazine, is that it houses one of the best bars in the city. Meandering around the hotel grounds is encouraged. Pathways connect various peaceful gardens to the patio, where the eclectic-but-trendy crowds gather for well-shaken cocktails, the occasional live music performance, and a spectacular view of the city.
You know you're a grown-up when your idea of great bar games includes Monopoly and not Beer Pong. The Belmont Hotel understands. They've recently i...

Mark S. Nelson isn’t a new name around Dallas. He’s been showing his work in our city’s stronghold galleries — Kettle, The Public Trust and Plush — since the early 2000s, giving those walls a hearty dose of cheerful color, layered above... More »

Before Brando developed an affinity for butter — both eating it and, well, you know — he sweat-stained his way through a not-so-ironic wifebeater in the 1951 version of Tennessee Williams’ iconic American masterpiece, A Streetcar Named Desire.... More »
From early spring to late summer, KXT's Barefoot at the Belmont series drops local and national acts onto the beautiful grounds of Oak Cliff's Belmont Hotel and demands your attention. The shows are always sellouts, which points to KKXT-FM 91.7 knowing its crowd. Will Johnson, Gary Clark Jr., Tim DeLaughter? Check. Demand was so high this year, the station might need to find another place to get barefoot in 2013. More »
"Hotel art" is a phrase that makes many cringe because, well, there's a whole lot of underwhelming abstract prints and landscape scenes to be seen in most hotels. But the Belmont is just too cool for bad art, and that's why the hotel displays art from local talents on the walls of the lobby in their Art with a View series. The hotel has always been a hip destination for poolside parties and now even pop-up shops, but Art with a View brings a certain refinement to the kitschy hotel. More »
If you've gotta watch Dallas' magnificent skyline burn on Judgment Day, there is no better spot than the collection of white stucco buildings perched above Sylvan. It is a hipster ecosystem unto itself. The boutique hotel's rooms are spartan -- some might call that retro -- but honestly, you need to get used to a little austerity now that society as we know it has reached its nadir. Because that's an awful realization to come to, you'll probably need alcohol. The Belmont barkeeps... More »
Truthfully, patio-dwelling in Dallas is only comfortable for a few weeks out of the year. The rest of the time, you're either sweating it out or freezing. But the patio at Bar Belmont, located at North Oak Cliff's The Belmont Hotel, is pleasant all year round. Half of it is covered and the other half is open to the elements, and the entire thing offers a spectacular view of downtown Dallas from the vintage hotel's spot perched on a hill. As added bonuses, if you get hungry, you can order... More »

There comes a time in the life of every relationship, be it a marriage or a couple in need of a jump start, when the two just need to get away without really getting away. Maybe the kids are too young to go too far, or Mom's got caretaker fatigue, or date night has gotten mundane. Sure, there is always the Ritz or The W, but then afterward, how can you afford to feed the kids? Not so with the historic Belmont Hotel, which has the vibe of being cool and reasonable at once. It's a different... More »
