A large rectangular mahogany bar anchors the center of the room, thick wood blinds cover the windows, and red lightbulbs give off a honky-tonk orange glow at this pub with pool-hall cool -- but no pool tables. There are games, though, from backgammon to Battleship, as well as live rock and roll on Saturday nights, ladies nights Tuesdays and Fridays, and other such festivities. The Bar is undeniably a fun place, but it takes its brews seriously. Among the 22 types of bottled beers are Pilsner Urquell, Anchor Steam, and rarer finds such as OranjeBoom from Holland ("hints of vanilla and bitterness") and Corsendonk (an ale brewed by Monks in Belgium with "malty hints of port, raisins, and black chocolate" followed by "hints of fruit, smoke, and yeast"). Eleven brews on tap include Guinness, Fosters, and the more obscure wheat beer, Tucher Hefe-Weizen. Pints run from $3.50 to $4.50; pitchers $12.50 to $16; bottles $3.25-$6.50. The Bar's bar food isn't to be taken lightly either; the hand-formed, charbroiled half- or full-pound burgers are better than most, as is the grilled London broil on garlic bread with melted Provolone. Key lime pie and chocolate cake are available for dessert, but 11 single malt scotches and 21 cordials are more appealing postdinner options.

A drinking establishment is the last place you would expect to find delicious key lime pie, but the Bar in Coral Gables has just that. For $6.50 (tax included) per slice, or $25 for a whole pie, the chef in back will whip up one with fresh ingredients. The result is a tangy, sweet, delicious, and fluffy confection that pairs well with an array of tasty appetizers, sandwiches, salads, burgers, and chicken wings. In true dive-bar fashion, shove a whole wedge in your mouth and wash it down with... More »
The Bar is the best of both bar worlds. Dark and cool even at midday and absolutely shadowed at night, it's a great place to drown sorrow or joy in a shot glass of bourbon accompanied by one of the Bar's many boutique beers. But Giralda Avenue is in Coral Gables, after all, and if you're going to have an establishment there, you might as well give the rich folk something to throw their cash at. The Bar's food is bar food, but not of the microwaved-mozzarella-stick variety. It is inexpensive... More »
After bartenders in Coral Gables call the last round, many of them make their way to The Bar for nightcaps. There is no better endorsement for a watering hole than one from the mixologist class. But if you need another, check out the beer selection. The Bar boasts 10 brands of brew on tap and 21 in bottles, plus a wide variety of liquor. A serviceable menu of standards features four kinds of hamburgers, a decent chicken sandwich, and mozzarella sticks that don't bathe your fingers in grease.... More »
This cozy joint is a mecca for Coral Gable's residents. With an extensive selection of beers and inexpensive bar food, The Bar's laid-back atmosphere offers a great place to chill and have have a good time. Take things old-school by choosing your favorite tunes from their jukebox, or stop by on one of the nights that they have a live band. The Bar is THE bar to check out.
Not to be confused with the downtown hipster hangout BAR, The Bar is a cool little place in the gables serving up some good The Bar food and a large selection of beers (along with the rest of that saus). Sometimes they open up the back and the party moves outside. It's a good thing The is not a very popular place or else it would be completely confusing.
