Description

This is one of the few restaurants in Houston that offers large portions of authentic Thai cooking, a relaxing ambience and a fairly extensive wine list. Plus, its second-story location gives the effect of dining in a tree house. The kitchen shows some creativity, using basil, pineapple, wine and garlic along with the traditional fiery Thai curries and chilies. A good-value buffet is arrayed at lunch, but of course the best dishes (such as crab cakes, green chicken curry, crusted ginger sesame beef and drunken chicken) must be ordered à la carte.

Sure, the name doesn't sound appealing. But there's nothing but joy to be had in the steaming plate of lard nar prepared for you at Thai Spice. There is no lard in lard nar. Thick rice noodles, softer than an angel's pillow, are covered in a secret house gravy. Broccoli chunks are thrown in over that. They make nice tom yum goong, summer rolls and I like their red curry. I've always gotten it as take out - I don't usually eat there. Overall good Thai food that's reasonably priced and convenient.
