Thai Elephant is likable all around, which makes sense considering that it's owned by the same family who runs Thai Basil in Tempe, Ahwatukee, and Chandler. At lunch, the menu is streamlined to suit the busy downtown crowd, while at dinner, there are considerably more options, from spicy papaya salad to silky tom kha. No matter what time it is, though, be sure to take your server seriously when he or she asks if you like your food "Thai hot." The kitchen won't hold back.

The peanut sauce here is great and the pad thai is great as always. Short walk from the lightrail. It was a great activity to ride the light rail into downtown. Eat here, walk around a bit, and then ride home.

This Thai Basil is now Thai Elephant - from what I hear, it's member of the same family that run the restaurant under the new name. As such, you get the same great recipes as Thai Basil. I usually go for the yellow curry or pad thai with tofu, but my boyfriend ordered the Drunken Noodle dish this weekend and it was amazing! Definitely a must-try.
