Whether you’re looking for the best place to ride your bike, hike a trail, or just a cool place to plop down for a family picnic, this pleasantly landscaped park, originally built in 1931 and completely renovated in 1999 as part of the construction of the city’s Town Lake project, has what you want. With views of the Tempe skyline as a backdrop, Tempe Beach Park looks and feels like a whole lot more than just a widened stretch of the Salt River—which is pretty much what it is. The lake is more than just pretty; it's five miles of paths for bicycling, jogging or in-line skating circling Town Lake provide a great place to get some good exercise with a rented paddle boat or a pair of rented skates, both available there. Tempe city events like the Tour de Fat, New Year's Eve Fete, and Oktoberfest are all the more festive here, thanks to wide expanses of green grass and a new pedestrian bridge linking the “beach” to the park itself.
Besides being situated next to comely Town Lake, Beach Park is also home to numerous special events and the staging ground for scads of running and...

The air traffic controllers occupying the tower at Sky Harbor have enormously high-stress jobs to be sure, given they deal with more than 1,200 flights on the daily. Fingers crossed those radar geeks won’t lose their shizzle if a few unknown... More »
Every year, Flogging Molly storms into Tempe for St. Patrick's Day, performing to a sea of drunken revelers primed to let loose to the sounds of the band's Celtic punk. Flogging Molly never fails to bring a lineup of party-minded bands with them,... More »
Local bands and musicians of a Celtic bent have plenty of reasons for their Irish eyes to be smiling right now, as this weekend is pretty much the biggest of the entire calendar year. St. Pat's lands ... More »
After nearly a decade, Celtic folk punkers Flogging Molly have become a St. Paddy's Day staple in Tempe. The band's anthems -- "What's Left of the Flag," "Devil's Dance Floor," and "Salty Dog" -- pull... More »
Even looking at Tempe Beach Park's Splash Playground in the off-season, when it's dry and quiet, we get a pang of emotion. Over many summer days when the kids were toddlers, they'd laugh and tread the shallow canals of the park, swim diapers swollen with water. Then they'd cry that they were cold when a slight breeze hit them, even when it was 110, and we'd give them a towel-wrapped hug. As the summers rolled on, they got too big to ride the backs of the water-spouting blue whales. They lost... More »
The annual Arizona Aloha Festival goes beyond big, burly Samoans slapping their chests and sexy hula dancers swinging their hips -- though we certainly don't mind either of those attractions. The event has grown in popularity and size since moving to Tempe in 2009 and now boasts a marketplace filled with coconut shell purses, hand-carved mother-of-pearl necklaces, and replicas of the carved wood and shark's tooth clubs used by ancient Polynesian tribes. We dug this year's focus on dance... More »
Love coming to the TBP. Its an all day adventure for my son who loves the kids and the water attractions here. I love knowing that we can get a healthy lunch within walking distance. Pull out a book, sit on the park bench and let the kids do their thing. Inexpensive, easy and fun!
This is a great place to take the kids, they have a splash waster park and playground which is free. Call before heading down to make sure the splash park is open, because sometimes it is closed when I have gone. They have picnic tables, grass, plenty of restrooms and it's just a nice place to spend your afternoon. It's very family oriented
Awesome place to catch a great show, or relax on the weekends! Paddle Boats make for a fun afternoon activity!
