Owned by Teppo Sushi proprietor Teiichi Sakurai, Tei Tei may well join Ferraris and long sabbaticals in Fiji as a slice of exotica vigorously lusted after. The "specials" chalkboard regularly features rare varieties of sashimi such as trigger fish and cristal fish, plus grilled baby barracuda and sea snail. And Tei Tei has Kobe beef steaks, an exclusive and rare grade of meat from Kobe, Japan, known for its extraordinarily melting tenderness, full flavor and marbled richness. Virtually everything here is fresh and meticulously prepared.

Each year when we reexamine the people mixing cocktails around the city, a certain, shall we say, insecurity creeps into our minds. Thousands of bartenders work in Dallas and its surrounding 'burbs and most pour a decent drink. By the time the... More »
Imagine a film set in the badlands of Japanese cattle country. Our movie follows a bunch of tough hombres--John Wayne, Gary Cooper, Randolph Scott--fending off Mothra and the occasional kamikaze, massaging the herd after a few beers and... More »
After more than a year of chasing investors around Dallas with fresh fish ideas, lauded ex-Fish chef Chris Svalesen has finally landed. On Venus. Svalesen plans to dramatically transform Shelly Dowdy's "swank" Venus Steak House and Supper Club... More »
Normally, a big part of why we're out to eat in the first place is that we want someone else to do the work, but Tei Tei's beef on the rock is a do-it-yourself experience that can't be beat. Tei Tei provides six strips of Washu beef--a crossbreed of Black Angus and native Japanese Wagyu--and a ginger soy marinade. You're charged with cooking them over hot rocks to your own specifications, but you'll be glad you're in control because with beef this thin and flavorful, you want to... More »
God knows how many times we found ourselves on Lower Greenville on a Saturday night in the mid-'90s with a woozy tummy in need of filling. Happened every weekend, it seemed, and always we'd sprint (or wobble, whatever) over to chef Teiichi Sakurai's Teppo, which was awesome not only because of its location but because it served up some of the best sushi in the city. Six years ago, Sakurai opened up this hoity-toity companion restaurant, and it remains the best Japanese joint in town; come... More »
There are a many things to love about this tiny room with an open kitchen and an ice pit where live lobsters twitch and quiver. First, there's the cozy bar with odd, sloped couches and great martinis made with sake. Then there's the chalkboard where all kinds of exotic specials are posted, depending on the catch of the day, which may be sea urchin wrapped in sheets of raw flounder or whole sardines scorched on the robata grill, or any number of swimmy things. Beer-guzzling things too. Tei... More »
Love their sushi!
So delicious! Try the "feed Me" roll, which is different every time according to chef selection. The one I ordered had scallop, avocado and salmon. Yum. The red miso with seafood is heavenly, too - everything is so fresh here!
Andys is one of the best places to go after the bar if youre in the Heights! Its no 5 star cuisine, but it certainly hits the spot after a long night of partying!
