The exterior of Haru Sushi is deceptively fortress-like, but inside it's spacious and cheerful, with a sprawling three-sided sushi bar surrounded by a sleek conveyor belt. Grab whatever strikes your fancy, or order directly from the compact menu of sushi standards. At the end of the meal, they tally your bill based on how many color-coded plates you've stacked up. Amazingly, you can eat a lot for very little dough.
When a new spot opens in town, we can't wait to check it out -- and let you know our initial impressions, share a few photos, and dish about some menu items. First Taste, as the name implies, is not a... More »

With its mesmerizing conveyor belt of sushi circling the counter, Teharu has a way of hypnotizing us. Somehow, we lose all self-control when plates of spicy tuna roll, salmon nigiri, and creative makizushi pass before our eyes. Before long, the plates start stacking up. Get the beer and sake flowing, and we're really in the zone. Luckily for us, they charge you by the plate, and it never amounts to much. Every time the bill comes, we still get a little surprised, even though we know Teharu's... More »
Most of the time, being impulsive at restaurants -- especially sushi restaurants -- can have pricey consequences. But not at TeHaru Sushi. You can throw caution to the wind and eat yourself silly at this south Tempe spot, and when the bill comes, we promise your jaw will drop at how affordable it is. The setup at TeHaru is kaitenzushi (conveyor belt sushi), and it's no wonder the Japanese are so crazy for it. Pick a chair at the counter, and then grab whatever looks good from the... More »
