Description

ZinZanni pairs gourmet dining with circus acts accompanied by a band, whose music controls the pace and defines the mood with the minute precision of a film soundtrack. The menu changes with the seasons, but it also changes with the show itself, as new acts are broken in, old ones move on or take a break, past favorites return. Baudelaire thought you needed drugs to achieve the "systematic disordering of all the senses" that leads to poetry; Teatro ZinZanni does it with music, jokes, spectacle, and white-chocolate-wrapped vanilla sponge cake. And it's legal.

  • 2011 | Best Theater Company

Moulin Rouge meets Las Vegas: Teatro ZinZanni is as fabulous as it is zany. From its headquarters, an antique theater tent imported from Belgium and set up right across the street from Seattle Center, the company presents a three-hour evening show featuring performances by international cabaret, cirque, and comedy acts as well as a five-course feast designed by Tom Douglas. Guests are highly encouraged to dress up, and feather boas and tiaras are as common as high heels. But underneath all... More »

  • 2010 | Best Equilibrist

Best what Yeah, we didn't know what one was, either--until we saw the latest Teatro ZinZanni production, Maestro's Menagerie. Now we know that an equilibrist performs difficult feats of balancing, and we're confident that nobody in town does it more beautifully than Elena Borodina. For most of the show, this Russian gymnast plays an arch sidekick to the Maestro himself, her curly blonde hair pulled tightly back in a bun. But eventually she emerges atop a piano, her hair loose and tousled... More »

This is my fourth time to TZ, and their current show "Caliente'" is the worst of them all so far. The food was good, the service was decent the ambiance was unique as always, but the show was lame. Why? Because if you are a white guy, and just spent $130/person on tickets to TZ, you don't want to get beat up because you are white. And that is basically what "Caliente'" does throughout the show, flog on White men, who are evil capitalists in the TZ portrayal; actually pretty racist and far too easy to do nowadays. So bad was this caricature of white males, the grand finale' depicted the lead bad guy (who was represented as a southern white male) as a White CLOWN (literally and figuratively). Yes a white clown (in the pejorative), and it was quite deliberate. As a guy with a pretty thick skin, I found this a grotesque attack on ~40% of the very persons who were paying for freaking dinner tonight. Funny, as I looked around the tent, I didn't see many minorities, so basically "Caliente" was attacking a majority of their customer base. WTF? Good marketing TZ. Way to go, you lost a future customer for that crap.

My recommendation is to wait to see TZ after "Caliente" goes away, as decent people should NOT support this sort of outrageous belligerence toward white people. If this sort of show had the same attitude toward any other race, the whole cast would be charged with a hate crime.

It's been a couple of years since I have been to a Teatro Zin Zanni show but you can't beat the entertainment and meal value. Great oppurtunity to interact with the performers.
