Of course, there is no Chinese food, just as there is no Chinese phone number--there are lots of them. It's a big country. But if you want Sichuan, or Szechuan, food, there is only one choice in Minnesota, and that's the wonderful Tea House, the Chinese restaurant with the special (ask for it!) Sichuan menu. Now, you might know Sichuan food exclusively for its fiery reputation, but if you order from Tea House's Sichuan menu, or from the daily specials board, and you will find dishes that are both ma la (numbing and burning) and also not so spicy at all. For entrees, the specials are your best bet. Pork with garlic chives? Perhaps dancing fish, a chile-rich soup with tender morsels of river fish? Whatever you order, rest assured your server will tell you the item is too hot for you. You will tell them it is not. They will shake their heads in doubt. You will tell them that most nights you just sit home chewing on white-hot pokers straight from the fire. Now you are off and running. Tea House is nestled in a strip mall at Willow Grove Center, near the movie theater Willow Creek 8. So, now you know. Check the movie schedules, and prepare to enjoy one of the greatest Chinese foods.
