The tacos at Taquería La Paisanita may be somewhat diminutive, but they’re also tiny in price: They're a mere $1.17 each, so you can afford to stuff your face with one of each variety. Beef fajita, al pastor, barbacoa, pollo and lengua all come stuffed in corn tortillas (or flour, if that’s your bag, but it’ll cost you about 20 cents extra) and appropriately adorned with the requisite chopped onion and cilantro, flanked by lime wedges, grilled onions and fiery salsa verde. The tiny blue taco hut opens at 7 a.m., making it an ideal pre-work stop for dollar breakfast tacos filled with egg and chorizo, ham or potatoes. Thankfully, La Paisanita’s burning the candle at both ends, staying open till 4 a.m. on the weekends to cater to the city’s late-night drinkers in need of sustenance.
It's really hard to single out one Dallas taqueria as the best, 'cause they all have their strengths (and weaknesses). For example, Fuel City's picadillo tacos are still some of the best in town, but their other varieties, not so much. When it comes to La Paisanita's tacos, we can't speak for anything except the al pastor, because that's all we got on our first visit, and all we've been able to bring ourselves to order on subsequent visits.
