Description

The original Tapas & Tintos still holds ground as one of the most popular spots catering to locals as well as the heavy tourist traffic on EspaƱola Way. This charming barcito serves giant pitchers of homemade sangria and offers an immense menu of small plates that capitalize on traditional Spanish flavors. A tasty trio of croquetas ($6.50) includes spinach, potato, and a wonderfully salty cod version. Meaty boquerones ($8.75) are plentiful on the plate -- no skinny white anchovies here. From squid to mussels to scallops, get your seafood double-stuffed with a creamy mix of more seafood that is baked until bubbly and golden ($10.50 to $11.95). Try the dedos del diablo langostinos ($13.75), a delicious signature dish of butterflied jumbo shrimp filled with Serrano ham and goat cheese, covered in breadcrumbs, and deep-fried to golden perfection. Meat lovers will rejoice in a classic parrillada de carnes ($23.95), a generously sized platter of charbroiled pork loin, skirt steak, chorizo, and chicken. A basic seafood paella ($36.95) can be revved up with the addition of lobster ($58.95). More adventuresome types might want to order the arroz negro, paella blackened with squid ink ($38.45). Take tango lessons Monday nights, or watch professional flamenco dancers Wednesdays and Saturdays.
