Forget everything you know about bass music for a minute and picture this: an event at an art gallery -- a light-and-sound gallery, really -- with Qigong, aura healings and meditation, as well as a dose of dubstep, breaks and drum-and-bass. What you have is Tao of Bass, an ongoing night hosted at Lumonics Light & Sound Gallery.
"We really love hosting it," says spokesman Barry Raphael. "It's an interesting combination of elements. The first time we did it, it just felt really right. It's the kind of direction we like to go in, where we bring in different interrelated elements -- and people love to dance, so we like to conclude the evening with dancing."
When you combine those activities with the beautiful sculptures and fixtures by gallery maven Dorothy Tanner, which use light as a major element, then you've got a truly out-of-this-world experience. In other words, don't expect your feet to hit the ground until well after you've left for the night.
Tao of Bass kicks off at 9 p.m. at Lumonics, 800 East 73rd Avenue, Unit 11; admission is $10. Kasia Star, Seraiah and Illnaughty will be providing the tunes. Get more information at www.lumonics.net.
