Time has seemingly ground to a halt inside the Tallyho as the look of this North Scottsdale neighborhood dive hasn't changed much since it debuted back in 1969. Over the past four decades, longtime owner Lois Richards has stubbornly held onto such kitschy touches as the stained glass windows, red vinyl booths, and wrought iron fixtures, refusing to change with the times. It's something of a keen throwback to the era when Bill Close read the nightly news, providing patrons with a trip through time to go along with their drinks. Although the Tallyho is equally steadfast in refraining from having a happy hour ("We've always been happy here from open to close," quips one female bartender), well drinks are only $3.50 and most bottled beers go for $3. Sadly, there aren't any old school brews like Hamm's or Löwenbräu available.
The Tallyho "has" is the oldest Bar in Scottsdale that has been owned and managed by one owner.
But that little award is not as important as the fact that - it is still offering good, cheap drinks for prices that disappeared back in the 80's - and that most of the people that started going their owned their first home in that neighborhood - and the selection of beers is limited are the ones that most people want because of the price being below economy demands - and because a person can actually have a conversation or two with some "nice", "down to earth people" who will give you the time of day when ever you want them to. The Tallyho will be a cornerstone in the history of Arizona let alone, the city of Scottsdale. When it comes to the decor - check out the new carpeting that goes along with the English theme that Tallyho is all about. Take a trip to England in your own backyard all of you tempe loving low riders cruising for a night out on the town. The staff is not your in the door and out the other either - holding their jobs down for some 20 years plus. A person visiting from Hawaii would say "Look out sisters" you don't want to try and pull one over on them! If you don't mind a friendly, clean and the greatest place to cool your jets and meet some fun people bar, with your friends or with out them, this is the place to not be missed. Kudos to Lois the sweet owner for keeping this place flying so we all don't have to look back while looking forward!
