Don't let the address fool you;this tiny carryout (with a few stools) is tucked into an obscure corner of the West Village nowhere near Washington Square. Its genius lies in the fabrication of three types of tiny Israeli falafel;including one made with roasted red pepper and another with harissa;rather than the usual one. Unfortunately, the novelties don't taste all that different. No matter, the accompanying hummus and carefully composed salads are top-notch. Unexpectedly, the french fries served with saffron aioli are killer. Strictly vegan, except for the smoothies.
Love this place. The falafel sandwich has a bit too much cabbage for my taste so ask for it without or get the bomb diggity - Mixed Falafel Platter with a whole wheat pita. It comes with a sampling of all of their falafel flavors and 2 types of amazing sauce. This is one of my favorite things. If you have 2 people in your party, get one platter and order 1 extra pita (it's a bit much for 1 person), and enjoy!

While it's more of a takeout counter than a restaurant, the tiny storefront Taim boasts one of the best all-vegetarian menus in town, thanks to its excellent falafel and smoothies. Unlike most chickpea orbs, these are packed with handfuls of fresh herbs, which give them great flavor. Not in the mood for legumes? Try the sabich, a pita stuffed to its breaking point with fried eggplant, slices of hard-boiled egg, and hummus--a glorious gutbomb of a sandwich. 222 Waverly Place, 212-691-1287... More »
