Tacos y Salsas is a tough place to miss -- all the outposts of this growing local chain are as shiny and carnival-colored as their surroundings are gray and grim. The food at this taqueria-style spot shines just as bright, with excellent meats sliced and seared right in front of you. You can doctor your dishes -- tortas, burritos, palm-sized gorditas -- from the salsa bar filled with sauces and other condiments, including fresh and pickled veggies. And, if you've chosen the right location (our favorite is on Federal), you'll be able to wash down your unmatchable meal with a beer.
So here's the thing: Tacos y Salsas, the canary-yellow, slightly seedy, fluorescently lit and stridently loud taquería with six locations throughout the metro area, has always pimped an unassailable salsa bar stockpiled with a six-pack of flavor-bombed reds, oranges and greens bolstered by vats of pickled jalapeños and carrots, cool radishes, cilantro, diced onions, lime wedges and a sweat-inducing pico de gallo -- everything you could ever want for dressing up your tacos.... Tacos y Salsas is a tough place to miss. It's as bright and shiny and carnival-colored as the street outside is gray and grim and run down by long, rough use. It almost seems like a spot where clowns should go to buy their floppy shoes and hand buzzers, all red and yellow and orange. But this homegrown chain is serious about its food. The Federal outpost, in particular, always seems full of cooks from other restaurants. Cooks and families of cooks and other families and neighbors and... More »

The Federal outpost, in particular, always seems full of cooks from other restaurants. Cooks and families of cooks and other families and neighbors and construction workers. And dedicated gastronauts, too, who're digging into tacos and enchiladas filled with exotic grilled meats and weird, mushy rellenos that they've doctored up with salsas and toppings from the bar. In a town full of Mexican restaurants, there's always room for another Tacos y Salsas.
YUMMY!!!!!!! Affordable authentic Mexican food. I love the home maid tortillas and the huevos rancheros.
The adobo beef tacos are so freakin good..they're addicting.
My cell phone rang around one in the morning. For most people, this would be a harbinger of bad news — kid in jail, someone in the hospital. For me, it almost always means work: a debriefing, a confession, an eleventh-hour emergency like a... More »
