Tacos y Salsas is a tough place to miss -- all the outposts of this growing local chain are as shiny and carnival-colored as their surroundings are gray and grim. The food at this taqueria-style spot shines just as bright, with excellent meats sliced and seared right in front of you. You can doctor your dishes -- tortas, burritos, palm-sized gorditas -- from the salsa bar filled with sauces and other condiments, including fresh and pickled veggies. And, if you've chosen the right location (our favorite is on Federal), you'll be able to wash down your unmatchable meal with a beer.

My cell phone rang around one in the morning. For most people, this would be a harbinger of bad news — kid in jail, someone in the hospital. For me, it almost always means work: a debriefing, a confession, an eleventh-hour emergency like a restaur... More >

Tacos y Salsas was rated the best taco in Denver by Westword newspaper in 2008... and I can vouch for that myself! My favorites are the carnitas and the carne asada! This place is totally authentic and delicous. There is a yummy salsa bar and an Awesome tequilla bar! If you are not feeling alcohol, there are delicious mexican Jaritas soft drinks, and the orange sunkist also comes in a glass bottle! Fun! And it has GREAT low prices! My boyfriend and I go once every week or two and our meals together are always under ten dollars!!!

Tacos y Salsas is a tough place to miss. It's as bright and shiny and carnival-colored as the street outside is gray and grim and run down by long, rough use. It almost seems like a spot where clowns should go to buy their floppy shoes and hand buzzers, all red and yellow and orange. But this homegrown chain is serious about its food. The Federal outpost, in particular, always seems full of cooks from other restaurants. Cooks and families of cooks and other families and neighbors and construction workers. And dedicated gastronauts, too, who're digging into tacos and enchiladas filled with exotic grilled meats and weird, mushy rellenos that they've doctored up with salsas and toppings from the bar. In a town full of Mexican restaurants, there's always room for another Tacos y Salsas.
