Description

It’s nothing to look at, but La Banqueta is without a doubt one of the best authentic taquerías in all of Dallas. Stop in for lunch and check out their suadero tacos. The kitchen braises the meat in a simple blend of spices, chops the meat up when it’s tender and then holds it till you place your order. When your ticket is pulled the cook throws a spoonful of suadero down on an oiled grill to crisp up into one of the most delicious taco fillings you may ever encounter. If you’re not in the mood for beef, pastor is similarly addictive, but all the tacos here are great, especially when topped with one of their green or red salsas. Fiery hot and vibrant with acid, the squeeze bottles of red and green could wake up even the sleepiest of Mexican cooking. You’ll never eat at Taco Bueno again.

  • 2012 | Best Meal Under $15

Go into La Banqueta and do your best to ignore the short man running water through 15 feet of cow intestine in the sink behind the counter. Ignore the grubby floors, the narrow space and the sticky counter you'll have to eat at if you don't want to take your order to go. Walk right up to the register, and order the suaqueso and as many pastor tacos as you think you can handle. Add an ice cold Topo Chico and a modest tip. You won't eat all the tacos, though. You might not even be able to eat... More »

  • 2011 | Best Taqueria

It's the one question that newly minted Dallasites always ask: Who has the best tacos? It's an oft-argued subject, but those in the know will tell you that Tacos El Guero, tucked away on Bryan Street, serves the best tacos in town. First-time visitors are treated to a complimentary al pastor taco, which is the most flavorful and tender rendition we've sampled here. The barbacoa is a real stand-out, and so are the lengua, tripas and bistec tacos. The small taquería has only a few... More »

  • 2009 | Best Taco Stand

If you've been searching for an authentic taco stand with tasty morsels that rival those served up at Fuel City but do so in a more authentic atmosphere that conjures rural Mexico, this is your place. The tacos al pastor boast just the right amount of spice and generous amounts of cilantro, and the beef and chorizo are up to par too. The more adventurous taco connoisseurs can opt for the tongue or intestines, and as convenience would have it, there's a liquor store next door where you can... More »
