Seven years ago, chefs Amy Vitale and her husband, Dustin Barrett, transformed a modest Park Hill storefront into a fine-dining destination that’s worth the drive, regardless of which part of town you call home. The eclectic decor, a charming assemblage of weathered tables and mismatched chairs, is warm, comfortable and completely devoid of pomp and circumstance. The two chefs showcase seasonal ingredients in their ever-changing entrees, which range from Colorado lamb loin with fava beans to Alaskan halibut with potato-beet ragout and a vibrant radish-cucumber salad. Sweet finishes include double-chocolate s'mores, pumpkin-and-gingerbread pudding and fresh-baked pies. The esoteric wine list is modest in size but big on boutique bottlings and wines by the glass.
Since my first review appeared in Westword in September -- it was of the then-six-month-old Kitchen Denver -- I've reviewed sixteen spots. And already, some of those spots are changing -- menus, if n... More »
Amy Vitale, co-owner of Tables, which I review this week, knows how to use a whisk, saute pan and chef's knife. But as it turns out, this talented chef has quite a green thumb, too. In the backyard g... More »

At first, the most surprising thing about Tables is the lines. Big lines that sometimes reach to the door, stretch past it and spill onto the patio, lines that break and become clusters of neighbors squeezed too tightly around four-top cafe... More »
Absolutely amazing food! Be sure to make a reservation and don't be afraid to eat at the bar.
Even without lunch (which Tables recently stopped serving), even without those lines that once stretched out the door and past the patio, even without the walk-in traffic and the look of surprise on the faces of everyone discovering the place for the first time, Tables stands as Denver's best neighborhood restaurant. Why? Because dinner here can so quickly and so easily become one of those meals you'll remember for the rest of your life. Owners Dustin Barrett and Amy Vitale, everyone on the... More »
Last spring, Amy Vitale left Strings to start Tables, a cozy little spot in Park Hill, with Dustin Barrett. And in the process, the partners moved sandwiches to an entirely new level in this town. Tables' menu recognizes sandwiches for exactly what they should be: transport vehicles for the best ingredients, front-loaded in interesting combinations. So here, a simple turkey sandwich takes on layers of gourmet complexity with the addition of brie and artichoke hearts, fresh tomatoes and... More »
