This Williamsburg staple has been serving up contemporary American cuisine since 2004. The restaurant has a classic bistro feel with rich wood accents, tile floors, vintage photos and pressed-tin ceilings. The menu is small, with homey classics like roasted organic chicken and pork tenderloin wrapped in prosciutto complemented by gourmet burgers, including one made with lamb and tzatziki, and a few salads accented with everything from warm octopus and basil to beets and hazelnuts. Save room for the ever-popular banafi cake, which puts banana and toffee pie on a dark Oreo crust. The restaurant is also open for lunch every day from noon until 4pm serving both sandwiches and salads. The bar is packed on weekend nights, with people downing one of the eight beers on tap, including Gaffel Kolsch and a house amber ale. If you don't have American Express, you might want to run down the street to take out some cash.— Keith Wagstaff

The retrograde Naugahyde and stamped-tin interior ought to be in a museum. The burger is great, but watch the specials too, since the horseradish short ribs are equally excellent. More »
