Description

Thank goodness former Ikette Robbie Montgomery put down her microphone and picked up her mixing spoon years back. For now in St. Louis there is Sweetie Pie's, hallowed ground for soul-food lovers. This grub is the real deal, and this lady can cook. Feast on smothered pork steak, baked chicken, ribs, Salisbury steak (main-course meats change from day to day) and side it up with classics like mac 'n' cheese, okra, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, rice and gravy, or cabbage and greens. The original location in north county is more like a lunchbox diner; this much newer one in the Forest Park Southeast neighborhood has nestled nicely into its more genteel, spacious digs. See listing for flagship location under "North."

Had a Glorious time in St. Louis, Mo. for the 105th COGIC Convocation. Stopped off at Sweetie Pies for lunch and as the food was really good we really enjoyed the service from the waiter who was a contestant on BET's Sunday's Best. Being that we are from Texas, I think some of the staff could use a lesson in southern hospitality. Some were really kinda of cold and blah. I mean they only asked us to stand behind the rope to avoid a traffic jam, but maybe saying it with a smile would have been more receiving by your customer than them feeling like they had just joined the military. Lighten up. Sorry I didn't get the friendlier waiter's name as he was so busy but he was a sheer delight; maybe next year we will go and look for him personally.

ok i am a sweetie Pies addist on TV have watched from day one, we have gone to Sweetie Pies on Manchester the Food was So so Delicious,so i was very anxious to go to the Mangrove sweetie Pies. so Wed OCT 17th returning home from Vacation we stopped , it was around 5 or so . walked in got in line when we reached the food i was sort of unhappy because i could see that food had been out for a while. then we got to the Chicken and all they were serving was Chicken Wings !!! i was so very dissapointed.the Pork Steak was all mussed up the Macaroin was down to the very Bottom of the Pan. I ask for another pan the girl turned around and the other pan was sitting in the Window she served it and then we got mashed Potatoes,
we got Dreesing .gravy a lot more, when we sat down everything was COLD !~!!!! The Staff was very courtious .i am so very dissapointed with the food because i have eatin at the Manchester and i know how delicious it can be, The only Highlight was that Miss Robbie was the getting set up in the fancy room for a function.I got to Say HI i was so Proud for that but not the food.so very dissapointed.

I have a question for anyone living in the St Louis area and who has visted Sweetie Pies. I love the show, but the one thing I am not sure about is the type of OIL they fry with. The reason I am curious is I am deathly allergic to Peanut Oil.So if some could find out.I would be very grateful....

    Thank You

    Ron

Robbie Montgomery's iconic soul-food spot sees slightly larger crowds these days thanks to its star turn in Welcome to Sweetie Pie's, one of the few successful shows on Oprah Winfrey's new, ratings-challenged cable network. OK, actually, by "slightly" we of course mean much, much larger -- ridiculously larger, with the line to order from the restaurant's cafeteria setup often stretching through the restaurant, out the door and up the block. And that's not even counting the members of... More »

One could, in theory, head to Sweetie Pie's location in the Grove neighborhood any day just for the sides: cabbage flavored with smoky bacon, tangy mac & cheese, thick yams, black-eyed peas and generous hunks of cornbread. But you might find a specific day especially mouthwatering, for at this most holy chapel of cafeteria-style soul food, the main courses rotate weekly. Grand matron Robbie Montgomery (a former backup singer for Ike and Tina Turner) does cook up wings, chops and steaks... More »

Robbie Montgomery's mac 'n' cheese is better than your mom's, but you don't have to tell Mom that. What she doesn't know won't hurt her, and this isn't even the first time you've cheated on her with your newfound sweetie pie, and it won't be the last. You tried to resist the allure of this affair, but you can't stop lining up for the best cafeteria-style buffet you've ever had in your life -- impossibly, the same stuff former Ikette Robbie Montgomery cooked in an electric skillet set on... Great as it is, the original Sweetie Pie's has always suffered from three things: location, location and location. The trip out to the original shop on West Florissant Avenue in Dellwood can take longer than the meal itself. Owner Robbie Montgomery's collard greens are worth the trip, but what's a city kid to do when she's got a hankering for Sweetie Pie's fried catfish but can't spare the half-hour in transit? Montgomery must have heard the city's stomach growling, because earlier this year... More »
