Few restaurants, chain, ethnic, or otherwise, offer more bang for the buck than Sweet Tomatoes. More than 60 types of lettuces, vegetables, toppings, and dressings are neatly lined up in a long, clean, salad bar. On the same row are specialty salads such as caesar, cobb, Thai noodle salad with peanut sauce, ginger lime shrimp, won ton chicken, and jalapeño potato salad with chipotle chile vinaigrette. Pile the plate (or plates) high as you head past the array of selections and toward the cash register. Once you pay a ridiculously low sum, you're free to grab a table, set your salads down, and then take part in the rest of the all-you-can-eat buffet. This includes eight superior soups prepared from scratch each day; a trio of pastas cooked exhibition-style; warm, freshly baked muffins and pizza-focaccia breads; nonfat frozen yogurt with sundae toppings; rice pudding; and jello. On Sundays, the restaurant serves breakfast from 9 a.m. to noon.
