UPDATE: This restaurant has closed. Live blues and otsumami - how hip is that? Hip enough to make Sushi Blues a Friday-night staple for hundreds of happy Hollywoodians, who've trekked over to hear the Sushi Blues Avant Jazz Band and a lineup of national acts for years and years now. The Blues is expansive and comfy, with overstuffed couches and chairs, a generous stage, and a sushi bar surrounded by bamboo poles, framed prints, and big picture windows. That sushi bar provides the second half of the equation: barbecued eel and papaya roll, tuna sashimi served on plantain chips with pineapple salsa, filet mignon tataki complemented by slivers of scallions, toasted sesame seeds, and a vibrant Chardonnay-wasabi dip. The sushi here is first-rate, and the funkier, trend-conscious cooked dishes offer combinations of textures and flavors you don't get in more-pedestrian Japanese restaurants.
great place to take someone for a special occasion. really great sushi and great music
"So how did you meet? During a liposuction appointment? How sweet. And you say you were married? Oh, I'm sorry: you're still married -- but you two share a deep connection that needs to be explored. Double dates can be awkward, but there are a few ways to troubleshoot tricky situations. Pick a restaurant with an... More »

Maybe it's the delicious sushi. Maybe it's the drink specials. Or could it be the blues itself -- a storytelling kind of music appreciated by the literate among us? Whatever the draw, we've noticed that the ladies at the long curved bar aren't shy about engaging in a refreshing meeting of the minds. And on the... More »
Surrounded by water that's chock-full of fishies, South Florida has basically two kinds of restaurants: seafood and other. So it stands to reason that we eat a lot of sushi. Once the bastion of the brave, sushi bars are now nearly as American as hamburger stands -- only wimps and wussies are afraid of chowing down on a little raw fish sittin' on a ball of vinegared rice. So, we've selected Sushi Blues because it's not for the ramen rookie, gari greenhorn, nigiri neophyte, nori novice, or... More »
So you think you know all there is to know about Sushi Blues Café? After all, it's a downtown Hollywood institution. For years, it's both served the raw fish-loving community and provided soul food -- of the live blues and jazz type -- to local... More »
