A century ago, an old farmhouse sat moldering in south city on what's now Leona Street, just south of Bates Avenue (which was then a dirt road). Kids swore it was haunted. But it endured, and right after Prohibition, a man named Pete Bley fixed it up as a tavern. Nearly 80 years later, the hard-working folks of Bevo Mill still come here to rest their bones, smoke cigarettes and quaff beer amongst familiar faces.
