A sugar shack is typically a place to store maple syrup and cure ham and bacon, but Old Town's Sugar Shack is more like a neighborhood pit stop, ideal for fueling up on fried bar grub, spirits, beer and a gumball from the retro Texaco gas pump candy dispenser. Bartenders sling drinks at the front bar, which is plated with steel and draped in checkered flags, while one side of the establishment is devoted to the projection TV beaming football and basketball games directly on the wall, to the delight of families crowded around the eight-top and the lingerers at the bar. Sneak around and you might even catch a glimpse of Santa Claus reclining behind the back bar, presumably getting ready for full display come Christmastime. Toothsome but never saccharine, the Sugar Shack is a sweet place to spend game day.
