The terrain of the dining room-three rooms, two levels-is a big plus at this Slope bistro, another is the fries, which resemble those from McDonald's back when they were good. They come in a humongous heap with the steak sandwich, a sort of ramped-up Philly cheesesteak with superior ingredients and oodles of caramelized onions. The pork chop, too, is prodigious, especially when preceded by the pepper-dusted octopus appetizer. But skip the unimpressive frisée aux lardons salad.
Pricey brunch, really close to being worth it.
Though the entrées climb above $20, the sandwich platters at STONE PARK CAFÉ--sided with salad or exceptional fries--provide a budget alternative. Our favorite is the Newport steak sandwich, done to a juicy pink in the middle, but veal tonnato (not currently on the menu), a northern Italian standard of sliced meat with tuna sauce, also rocks.
