Hip, urban, Dr. No-like sushi joint from the team that gave Scottsdale the funky-fresh tiki lounge Drift. Decor features zebra wood tables, Japanese-style restrooms, and a tank in the floor of the entranceway featuring several live stingrays. Nigiri sushi is first-rate, but the maki still needs some work, so steer away from those until the wrinkles are ironed out. Many of the traditional, non-sushi items are excellent, such as the miso-marinated black cod, and hamachi kama, or yellowtail cheek. Kudos for the green tea, made with tea leaves instead of baggies, but the green tea ice cream tempura should be avoided at all costs. Stick to the non-fried kind, and you won't regret it.
It’s awesome. The food is so good! Great scene. You have to go here whenever you’re in Scottsdale.

The first time we visited Stingray Sushi, not long after it opened, we were more impressed by the eatery's decor than its maki or nigiri. Brought to us by the same team that gave us the hip Scottsdale tiki bar known as Drift, Stingray was an instant hit with the Gen Y party set, with its orange walls, zebrawood tables, and general James Bond-ishness.
