Some of the best Polish grub this side of Chicago. Stanley's has it all. Melt-in-your-kisser pierogi; golabki (cabbage rolls); sauerkraut and bigos (meat stew); sandwiches so thick they'd choke Shamu; 46 different kinds of homemade European meats and sausages; and canned and dry goods shipped in from Poland, the former Yugoslavia, Romania, Hungary, and so on. There are only four small tables, and the temptation will be to stick to takeout. But dine in for lunch and you can listen to the Polish ladies banter back and forth in their native tongue, and read one of the Eastern European mags and papers on hand. Better than TV, folks.
These days, most of us have never experienced (or have forgotten) the joy of going to a real live butcher or the intoxicating fragrance of fresh smoked meat or even the taste of imported cheese strai... More »
If you've visited Stanley's Homemade Polish Sausage Company on McDowell Road lately in search of a damn good smoked sausage sandwich (or other meaty delights) only to find it shuttered with a sign on ... More »

In fact, they've been making sausage at Stanley's for damn-near 50 years, and it was the first Polish deli in Phoenix. Today, Polish is just one ethnicity represented. Also hanging behind the two middle-aged Polish women running the joint are links of Hungarian, Yugoslavian, Swedish, and Italian sausage. And then there's ham, hot dogs, capiccola, prosciutto, bologna, bratwurst,... More »
This is the best sausage fest ever: meaty butts, thick kielbasas, and Hungarians that'll leave your mouth orange with paprika. May sound like the after-party for an all-male revue, but get your gray matter out of the gutter! We're talking about McDowell's own Stanley's Home Made Sausage Co., which has been in business since 1963 under three sets of owners. For the past 16 years, it's been in the hands of the Stevanovic family -- 31-year-old Marko, and his mom and dad, Emilia and Vukadin.... More »
