Riverfront Times' Description

The Silver Ballroom stands out as the hippest place to live out drunken fantasies as a pinball wizard. The interior is slick with bordello red walls, shiny black floors sprinkled with glitter and sparkly charcoal booths. The bar top was handmade by the owners with over 400 local show fliers from years past, and the pinball machines themselves appear well-kept and clean. Expect mainstays such as the late '80s Williams tables, or the more recent licensed machines like South Park. Nearly 20 amusement options line the walls but if gaming's not your thing, just hit the punk rock jukebox, grab Stag or PBR on the cheap plus an Australian meat pie and snag a booth. For those keen on cocktails, the bar provides alluring mixes with equally inventive names, like the Foxy Brown and the Cold War Revival. Go for an Iron Made In Manhattan and try your luck at pleasing Bride of Pinbot. The Silver Ballroom means punks and pinball.

"pinball, PBR, punk rock." this south side bar is welcoming and the bartenders are friendly. there are several pinball machines (play "dr. dude" first) and a jukebox that has many punk classics. $1 gets you three plays. they also serve pretty good food, which is a surprising departure from the frozen pizza heated and served in other bars like it.

The bright-red Raw Power ($5!) tastes just like Hawaiian Punch -- we could drink it all night long! Of course, you can never go wrong with 24-ounce PBR cans. (Gabe Hartwig)
