Description

Riverfront Times' Description

It's dark. It's hotter than Satan's girlfriend. The low ceiling means all the heat being generated by the crowd is rising -- only to fall and suffocate unwitting and terribly sweaty concert-goers. But there's something primal and viscerally satisfying about paying to stand and sweat among the crush of bodies while your favorite indie band or local rockers obliterate the stage. If you're looking for a club that is based on atmosphere or ambiance, you might need to look elsewhere. But if it's music you're after, whether it's punk, rock, metal or something completely different, the Firebird is your new best friend. Having hosted everyone from the Dead Milkmen and Swans to Big Freedia and Best Coast, the Firebird is a lively and open-minded host to an show-going experience to be remembered.

Played almost all of "Big Lizard in My Backyard," plus a few off "Metaphysical Graffiti", some other great stuff, and their new stuff sounds good too (Not a "free-form Jazz Odyssey). The new bass player is fantastic, and Rodney, Joe and Dean are in great... More >>

Located near the Fox theater, on Olive St. in downtown St. Louis, this bar/concert venue recently hosted local bands including Resoldered, The Union Blue & The Married Men. All three bands have just released new albums. It can be a little warm inside The Firebird,

Gather 'round, children! Let Old Rock Scenester tell you a story. Once upon a time, I had to go to Chicago, Kansas City or Columbia to see decent shows. (It goes without saying that I walked there, uphill both ways, through the snow, barefoot.) But that was before the Bluebird stormed into town and established itself as a venue capable of attracting bands that would otherwise... More >>
