Description

As storied as St. Louis' beermaking history may be, we're a bit behind the curve in local brewpubs. Enter Square One, housed in an old Lafayette Square tavern that a hundred years ago was home to an Anheuser-Busch tavern. Square One's dozen different varieties of house-crafted beer include a rich (but not weighty) stout, a clean-tasting IPA and a tart weizen. The food is hearty (if somewhat predictable) fare that stands up to the full-bodied flavor of a tasty pint: chili, beer cheese soup, bratwurst, plus beer-battered this, that and the other.
