Description

Located in the music-friendly Baker neighborhood, Sputnik serves as a spot to get the party started before the show or to recap the events after one. Located next door to the hi-dive, Sputnik is frequented by touring bands -- hoping to fill the hunger void with a PBR and a corn dog -- and local rockers hoping to get their band on the bill or an application to work the door. On Thursday nights, Sputnik hosts "What We Do Is Secret," as DJ Dirtbag plays classic punk bands like the Buzzcocks, Dead Milkmen and the Wipers, with a little Wu-Tang Clan for flavor. If all the partying during the week has you feeling a little hazy, Sputnik has you covered with a hangover brunch daily til 3 p.m., featuring breakfast burritos, egg tacos and the life-giving Hangover Scramble, served alongside $3 Bloody Mary's and $2 Mimosas.

  • 2011 | Best Vegetarian Green Chile

Sputnik's fire-roasted, homemade green chile comes in both pork and vegan varieties, and although the pork version is tasty, the vegan green chile is spectacular. Served with corn tortillas on the side, it's everything a green chile should be: thick, filling and mouth-watering, redolent with smoky green chiles and a mild heat that lingers on the lips. You can order it in a bowl, as a side dish or topping Sputnik's infamous Hangover Breakfast (also vegan-optional), with no fear of chicken or... More »

  • 2007 | Best Denver Answer to Brooklyn

All the broke, arty types -- musicians, writers, etc. -- in New York can't afford to live in Manhattan. As a result, they flock to less expensive neighborhoods in Brooklyn, which is where hi-dive owner Matt LaBarge and his wife, Allison, once lived. In the fall of 2003, when the couple moved to Denver and took over the former Quixote's spot, they set out to create a hip space like the places they enjoyed in their old Park Slope neighborhood. Ones that served good food, good coffee and good... More »
