Hey, cheapskate! Did you know that Spasso is bucking the industry standard on hefty wine markups and selling its bottles of wines at retail price? That's roughly half what you'd pay at any other restaurant. Sure, it sounds as suspicious as an email that begins with "Dear Sir" and ends with a huge sum of money sitting in a Nigerian safety deposit box, but it's true--you can go next door to the Wine Shop and see for yourself. Since Spasso's owner is a partner in the retail shop, you can even buy a bottle there and bring it into the restaurant without paying a corkage fee. The Italian/American menu offers pizzas, pastas, and upscale entrees, some of which are better than others. Even if you can't always count on the food, you'll always feel good about what you paid for the wine.
We already liked drinking wine at Spasso for one big reason: no markup. (Seeing a bottle of wine on a restaurant list that's priced three times what it costs at the liquor store is a sure way to give your wallet a seizure.)
